Leon McCarron, film maker and adventurer, revisited Hilden Grange in September at the invitation of the Geography Department. He inspired pupils from Years 4 to 8 with a presentation of how he began as an adventurer, moving onto his latest 1000 mile trek on foot in the Middle East. The children were absorbed by his engaging manner and his beautiful photographs, and asked some fantastic questions. He touched on the geography, the history and the different faiths of the area, making it a truly cross curricular, life enriching event. We were thrilled too that he incorporated the language of learning that we have been developing at Hilden Grange; perseverance, a positive attitude, confidence, good communication and accepting a challenge, all without being briefed!
Parents of children from Years 7 and 8 had been asked if they wanted their child to receive a signed copy of Leon’s recently published book on this latest trek. I have since dipped into it, and have been impressed by the quality and style of his travel writing. The book is available in the library, or if you are interested in purchasing a copy, please visit his website
