The European Day of Languages is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of languages across Europe, and we needed little encouragement to once again mark the event across the school. Pupils and staff came to school dressed in an array of colours and traditional dress, representing a whole host of European countries.
In a special assembly to celebrate the day, each year group in the Prep School performed a song from their host country, including a rousing Italian rendition of ‘ring a ring a roses’ from Miss Napadano’s form. Year 8 were given the most challenging language and impressed with their new knowledge of Greek! A presentation from Year 5 revealed just how a knowledge of the ‘dead language’ of Latin provides the perfect grounding for learning many other European languages. Bilingual pupils from all year groups demonstrated their linguistic prowess in French, Spanish, German and Russian and rousing renditions of the German and European anthems from our instrumentalists provided the perfect way to start and round off the assembly.
