In the Pre-Prep we provide a friendly, nurturing environment that stimulates learning, builds confidence and encourages creativity. Above all, we provide a firm foundation for the next stage, in the Prep School.
Learning is fun!
Learning in the Pre-Prep is vibrant and exciting. Pre-Prep children follow the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum (Years 1 and 2). They are introduced to subjects, such as French, Geography and R.E. at this early stage through a Creative Curriculum approach. ICT is firmly embedded in the curriculum from Nursery, using touch screens, interactive whiteboards, iPads, laptops and, from Year 1, pupils receive lessons from a specialist ICT teachers in the school’s two dedicated computer suites.
A new Early Years Outdoor Learning area was completed in April 2017 and provides a rich, dynamic and natural space for learning and development. The children have embraced it whole-heartedly and we are very excited about the huge range of learning opportunities that it provides.
Creative Arts are particularly important in the Pre-Prep, and the children enjoy specialist teachers for Music, Drama and Dance. Many children start individual instrument lessons at this stage, and the annual Summer Concert is a wonderful way to celebrate their musical achievements. The annual nativity play is another highlight in the school year.
Visits, Visitors and Events
A full and varied programme of visits, visitors and events enhances the curriculum and develops the children’s knowledge in a very entertaining way. Children enjoy theatre trips, and outings to a variety of local attractions such as Tonbridge Castle, Tudeley Church and Whitstable beach, as well as further afield to Drusillas Zoo, the Florence Nightingale Museum and the Science Museum. Pre-Prep children participate whole-heartedly in the life of the school, and take part in annual events such as Science Week, and fundraising events.
Pre-Prep children enjoy playing in their own field, with an enclosed wooden adventure playground, and also have access to the extensive grounds, swimming pool and sports hall. PE lessons are taken by a specialist teacher from Nursery upwards, with skills for sports such as netball and rugby introduced in Year 1 in preparation for competitive matches in the Prep School. The children relish the chance to demonstrate their skills at the annual Pre-Prep Sports Day.
Clubs and Activities
Children in the Pre-Prep enjoy participating in a wide range of clubs. These include Joga Bonita Brazilian Soccer, TaeKwondo, Art and Craft, Swimming, ICT and Board Games to name just a few. Click through to the Pre-Prep Clubs and Activities page for more information.
